Nice to meet you all

I’m going to be a bit sparse on here for the next week - I have another meeting to caption. This one is a physician’s committee, that also includes, as non-voting members, 4 paramedics, and as visitors, additional paramedics and nurses.

The meeting lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.

At several points in the meeting they were all talking at once. Eventually the chairperson reminded them that I have to type what they’re saying - that helped for about 5 minutes.

The first topic, which they spent 20+ minutes discussing, was a draft policy for accrediting miscellaneous continuing ed classes. They should have done this at least 5 years ago. We tried last fall, and one non-member of the group volunteered to do it. But he confused credentialing individuals with accreditation for classes. So the committee chairperson assigned me, my boss and an instructor to draft the policy.

Some of the people at this meeting still don’t understand the difference between credentialing and accreditation. And they nitpicked everything, and went through a dozen or more “what ifs.” There are going to be dozens of “what ifs” once this policy is put into practice, and we recognize that we are going to have to resolve them as they Paul Oakenfold come up. But we need to set some standards first.

The state law and guidelines on webcasting says that I have 5 days to add the captioning. I assume that means five working days. I started this Wednesday afternoon. Thursday I had to quit for a while, because our network server needed a new backup drive installed, and then my computer needed a new cd burner and software installed. And we have Monday off. So I expect I won’t get this done until Friday.

So far I’m up to 20 minutes. If I can do a half hour a day, I’m doing well. I can only take so much of it, and then I have to take a break and do something else - like write in this blog.
